Introduction
Myrtle Cottage is a newly refurbished brick built 2 storey cottage, set in the heart of historic Alford, a small market town in Lincolnshire. It ideally sleeps 4, but has facilities for 6 with the use of a sofa bed. Although central, it is peaceful & hidden away down a side road just off the main street.
Pre-Arrival
• We have a basic website www.myrtlecottagealford.co.uk that gives a good impression of what's on offer & costs/availability & a map of our location
• Bookings / enquiries can be made directly from the website via email, or via telephone or by letter.
• On booking clear instructions & terms are given & a full colour brochure & receipt sent on deposit paid
• The nearest bus stop is in the market place 200metres away
• Skegness railway station is 12 miles away & there are a number of local Taxi firms for which we supply the nos.
• We can pre-arrange to meet guests on arrival or agree a mutual pick up point for the key, should the guests be arriving very late
Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
• The parking is off road, on the premises
• The entrance to the courtyard is through double garage doors, these will be open before your arrival & it is up to the guest whether they wish to keep them closed during their stay.
• There is also a separate pedestrian access at the side of the garage doors, with security lighting.
• There is a 6' height restriction on a vehicle as the 2nd storey goes over the cottage entrance. It is advisable to reverse into the courtyard for ease of driving out , as Chapel St. is a narrow little road.
• The car can be parked right outside the main door & under cover.
• There is a 1” rise + ½” weatherboard to get into the kitchen
• A welcome pack of tea/coffee/sugar/bread/milk & a sweet item is provided
• Fresh flowers are placed in the lounge
• An instruction manual & list of phone nos. prominently displayed
Main Entrance, Reception & Ticketing Area
• The main door leads into the kitchen with no steps to manoeuvre, but a 1 & ½”rise weatherboard. It is a single key, keyhole situated just near the handle
• The key handover will have been pre-arranged
• Light switch is on the left as you go in, one switch for the kitchen lights, one switch for extra outside lighting
• The welcome pack is on the kitchen table & instructions on the lounge table. Phone nos. are on the notice board on your left.
Public Areas - Hall, Stairs, Landing, Corridors etc
• The stairs are directly off the kitchen. There are 12, and the riser between each step is 8" with a 9 1/2" tread. They are carpeted & not steep, there is a handrail on the right hand side.
• This leads to a carpeted landing area giving access to the 2 bedrooms & the bathroom. One window looks out to the front of the cottage & is fitted with a wooden slatted blind. It is double glazed & left unlocked.
• There is a full length mirror, wall mounted, a laundry basket & a wall mounted fire extinguisher
• Wired in smoke/carbon monoxide alarm.
Public Areas - Sitting room, lounges, lobbies etc
• The lounge is off the kitchen through an arch. The flooring is laminate with a rug under the coffee table. The coffee table is trunk style & stores the bedding for the bed settee.
• There are 2 double settees, & 2 easy chairs, either settee will convert to a bed for extra guests or anybody with mobility problems.
• There is a digital TV with integral DVD/CD drive & remote control, this is on a coffer that can be used for extra storage & in the drawers are a selection of DVD's & CD's, the guests are welcome to use.
• There is a separate cd player/radio on a small chest of drawers
• Another 'mule chest' offers further storage space
• There are various lamps as well as an overhead light.
• A well stocked bookcase offers varied reading tastes, some games & a folder is full of local information & places of interest.
• A selection of occasional tables completes the furniture.
• Double glazed French doors lead out onto the courtyard & also offer an alternative fire exit.They have full length curtains.
Bedrooms & Sleeping Areas
• The 2 main sleeping areas are upstairs,The fitted carpet from the stairs & landing runs through into the bedrooms.
• The main bedroom has a double Pine bed, bedside tables & lamps, a chest of drawers with a mirror & a built in wardrobe.
• In the wardrobe is extra bedding if required.An easy chair & cushion that can be redeployed downstairs if neccesary.Two double glazed unlocked windows give views to the rear & front of the cottage, fitted with slatted wooden blinds..
• The 2nd bedroom has full sized bunk beds, with the ladder being an integral part of the bed. There is a chest of drawers, basket style, a free standing lightweight wardrobe, a vanity mirror & a free standing full length cheval mirror.A leather dining chair can be redeployed downstairs if required. One double glazed unlocked window looks out on the front of the cottage, fitted with a slatted wooden blind.
• Both bunks have their own light, an extra lamp & an overhead light complete the lighting.
• A choice of 2 double bed settees are available in the downstairs lounge, with one set of double bedding provided, giving a maximum sleeping capacity of 6..French doors are curtained & locked, key to be kept in lock at all times.
• A cot is available on request, but not kept on the premises until required
• The upstairs beds are all made up with cotton sheet/duvet & the duvet & pillows are bought as 'hypoallergenic'. The mattress cover & pillow protectors are changed for each booking. An additional fleece blanket is provided for each bed
Bathroom, Shower-room & WC [Ensuite or Shared]
• Bathroom is upstairs, Fitted white modern low level suite, chrome shower is over the bath, with a fitted glass shower screen, The bath has grab handles & a non slip base.
• The flooring is grey/white marbled anti-slip cushion floor.
• A retractable shaving mirror & a shaving point are fitted.
• An automatic extractor fan comes on when the light switch is on
• Pedal bin & soap provided.
• Window over rear of cottage has opaque glass & an austrian blind.
• Downstairs, off the kitchen is a separate WC with hand washing facilities. Access is suitable for a wheelchair.
Self-Catering Kitchen
• Kitchen is fully fitted with wooden wall & base units, painted cream & having magnetic catches.
• Free standing fridge freezer, with microwave on top.
• 4 ring electric oven with separate grill, overhead extractor fan & light.
• Under work top , small front loading washing machine.
• Acacia/cream table with 4 dining chairs + 2 stools ( further dining chair upstairs if required) Table can be pulled out to accommodate up to 6 .
• Floor is laminate with 2 mats on anti slip grip, integral door mat at back door.
• Utensils & cooking requirements for 6, includes toaster, cafetierre.
• Lighting is spotlight & recessed.
• One double glazed, unlocked window looks out to the front of the cottage, wooden slatted blind fitted.
• Main door half glazed, wooden slatted blind fitted. One side, coat hooks & fuse box, other side notice board.
• Fire extinguisher/fire blanket wall mounted.
• Wired in smoke/carbon monoxide alarm
• Disabled access WC off kitchen, laminate floor, mirror ,hand towel, soap + houses ironing board, clothes airer, sweeping brush, pegs, coat hooks
• Under stairs cupboard housing iron & hoover.
• Arch leads through to lounge
Grounds and Gardens
• Outside is paved to make a lovely secluded courtyard area, with gravel to one side & concrete under car port.
• Table & 6 chairs.
• Outside water tap
• Washing line
• Various plants in tubs/hanging baskets to season
• Around the side of the cottage are covered bins for general refuse/recycling & glass. We remove all waste.
Additional Information
• The cottage is strictly no smoking
• One small well behaved dog allowed with prior consent at a small extra charge.
• Welcome pack on arrival, can be altered to suit diet/allergies etc.
• Please note where window catches & doors are, key must be left in french doors at all times.
• Not very good mobile phone reception in kitchen, depending on network.
